Head of State, CPLP analyze organizational challenges

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 21 - The Angolan head of State, João Lourenço, on Friday in Luanda received the executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), Maria do Carmo Silveira, at a meeting where the two officials analyzed the challenges of the organization. ,

 

At the end of the audience, Maria do Carmo Silveira, told journalists that the meeting served to say goodbye to President João Lourenço.

Maria do Carmo Silveira is at the end of her term and will be replaced by Portuguese diplomat Francisco Ribeiro Telles.

The former prime minister of São Tomé and Príncipe considers have doing a good job ahead of the organization and highlighting the entry of nine associated observers.

These are the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Principality of Andorra, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Argentina, Serbia, Chile, France, Italy and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI).

Under the CPLP rotating presidency, Angola will take the lead in the organization in 2020.

The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) is an international organization made up of Portuguese-speaking countries whose objective is to deepen mutual friendship and cooperation among its members.

The CPLP was created on July 17, 1996 by Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Sao Tome and Principe.

In 2002, after getting the independence, East-Timor was welcomed as an integral member.

In 2014, Equatorial Guinea became the ninth member of the organization.

It is estimated that the population of its member countries amounts to approximately 270 million people.
