Angolan head of State leaves Sal Island
ANGOLA, July 19 - Sal Island (Cabo Verde) - Angolan president João Lourenço left Thursday the Cabo Verde's Sal island after attending the 12th Summit of Heads of State and Government of Portuguese Speaking Countries Community(CPLP). ,
The Angolan Statesman is accompanied by the First Lady of Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, and several members of the Executive.
Cabo Verde took over the two-term rotating CPLP presidency, in replacement of Brazil.
Angola is expected to hold the post of the Portuguese speaking community in 2020.
In "Santa Maria” Declaration, the Heads of State and Government welcomed the Organisation's progressive international affirmation and reaffirmed the primacy of peace, democracy and the rule of law, human rights and social justice.
They reiterated that mobility and circulation in the community are privileged instruments for the better mutual understanding and progressive construction of a CPLP citizenship.
The Portuguese Francisco Ribeiro Teles was elected new Executive Secretary of the CPLP, taking over from São Tomé's Maria do Carmo Silveira.
The Statesmen approved the granting of the category of CPLP Associate Observer to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Principality of Andorra and the UK.
Also as Observers Associated include Argentina, Serbia, Chile, France, Italy, and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI).
The meeting also renewed the mandate given to the Executive Secretary of the CPLP to monitor the political situation in Guinea-Bissau and maintain a framework for consultation and interaction with Guinean political actors, as well as with international and regional partners.
The Heads of State urged the Equatorial Guinean authorities to continue with the measures contained therein, mainly the abolition of the death penalty and the teaching of the Portuguese language.
They welcomed the decision of the Equatorial Guinea authorities to grant a general amnesty and welcomed the announcement of a comprehensive and inclusive political dialogue involving all political actors.
The CPLP also reaffirmed its conviction to move forward with UN reform, in particular the Security Council, with a view to enhancing their representativeness, legitimacy and effectiveness by incorporating new permanent and non-permanent members.
They also welcomed the inclusion of the Historic Centre of Mbanza Congo (Angola) and the Cais do Valongo (Brazil) on the World Heritage List.
The group also pledged commitment to defence and promotion of human rights seen as crucial for human dignity and the well-being of the people.
CPLP comprises Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé e Príncipe and East Timor.
The organisation was created on 17 July, 1996.
